49-year old, Ricardo Esparza, allegedly attempted to steal a woman’s purse offered the arresting officers a bribe in the amount of $1 million not to arrest him. The Globe Gazette reported that the incident that preceded the whole bribe thing, began in an alley in Davenport, Iowa, on May 17th.

Esparaza reportedly followed a woman down an alley. When she turned around to face him, Esparaza reportedly punched the woman in her face and began pulling on her purse straps immediately after.

Police were on the scene immediately afterward, and arrested Esparaza. After being escorted to the police car and placed in the backseat of the patrol car, police read him his Miranda rights. Esperaza interrupted the officer and calmly offered him $1 million if the officer would let him walk free. Esparaza reportedly offered the officer $1 million in cash, or “he could have the money transferred straight to their banks.

When asked by the officers, if he was attempting to bribe them? Esparaza reportedly responded “Yes”. He was taken to jail instead. Esparaza has been charged with 2nd-degree robbery and bribery. He’s facing up to 15-years in prison if convicted on all charges.
