49-year old, Lance Lucas, from Philadelphia, was arrested by Sharon Hill Police and charged with drunk driving on Tuesday. The DUI charge stems from an Uber ride in which Lucas allegedly, erratically drove a woman and her infant child to their destination while intoxicated.
A report from 6-ABC Action News said the incident happened on April 10th at around 2:00 p.m. The victim told police that Lucas was swerving and almost hit a wall at one point during the trip.
The victim told police that she asked Lucas to pull over multiple times and let her out, but he refused to do so. The victim said that she was only able to get out of the car after Lucas drove onto the sidewalk and caught a flat tire. The victim was then able to exit the vehicle uninjured.
Police were on the scene in a matter of seconds. Responding officers said Lucas was unsteady on his feet and his speech was slurred when they spoke to him. He was administered a field-sobriety test which he failed. Lucas was released on bail. His next court date is scheduled for May 22, 2024.
“As soon as this was reported to us, we removed the driver’s access to the platform”, Uber said in a written statement.
